Framed Art

Extensive travels throughout North America from an early age, shaped my experience and appreciation of the land and the variety of it's character. By my teens, I had seen most of the continental United States and visited both Canada and Mexico. My college career was also varied and added to my wealth of experiences to draw upon. I studied fine art, product design, graphic design and education, attending the Art Institute, Columbus College of Art & Design, Ohio State University and the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating with a degree in art, as well as education, I moved to the Adirondack Mountains. I had visited the area in my travels and making my home in the mountains appealed to me. Immersed in nature, I began painting the natural world.

Living within the boundaries of the Adirondack Park, the beauty in my backyard could keep me painting for a lifetime. But I enjoy traveling and painting other areas of the country as well. The Rocky Mountain area is particularly inspiring, with Yellowstone being a favorite destination. The sheer beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the drama of the Canadian Rockies have also been a strong influence on me. Closer to home, I take the opportunity to visit Vermont regularly and also enjoy the Berkshires and Catskill Mountain areas.

Now, as a professional artist for the past 13 years, I have painted in oils, acrylics and watercolor, along with ink and pencil drawings. Projects have ranged from small detail paintings to large full wall, life size murals. My style has progressed from a tighter detailed depiction to more expressionist, focusing less on rendering detail and more on the essence of the scene stated in a strong composition. Currently concentrating on oils on linen, my paintings range from small studies to major works. I enjoy painting plein air, sometimes using the pieces as a finished work or as a study for a large studio piece.
